Martin Truex Junior’s Comments After Qualifying Run
This interview is before Truex knew he was the Pole Sitter.
Matt Yocum: Saturday in practice, he predicted they would have a strong run today, this run is big for you and this team for so many reasons, why?
Martin Truex Jr: Well, it’s been a tough winter, you know, everybody’s read, about whats been going on, and there is alot of uncertainty, threw out part of the winter, and I am just proud of my guys for all their hard work, and sticking with it, for not letting anything get them down, they never have, and it is a good feeling, they have done a great job, built an awesome car, and I gotta thank everybody at ECR for an excellent motor, they have come along way in a year. So, were excited about it, It’s not important to qualify up front, but we’ve never had a shot at the pole before, and it’s nice to come here and have a shot, so I am just proud of all the guys for it, hopefully we’ll get this Bass Pro Chevy on the Pole.
Matt Yocum: The gusts have been coming and going, as far as you on the race track, Did you feel alot of cross wind, or a tail or a headwind?
Martin Truex Jr: I felt a good bit down the back, but it Didn’t seem to slow the car down too much, it was just kind of blowing me down the bottom, so it was more of a crosswind than a head wind, which is good, but, we’ll just have to see what happens you know, there’s still some good cars left, the 21 is going to be tough, It’s good to see that car run real fast like it used to, and there’s a few other good cars too, so were not out of it just yet, but front row would be awesome!
Matt Yocum: Congratulations on your run.
Martin Truex Jr: Thank you.

Martin Truex Junior’s Comments on his Qualifying Run
Comments after Truex knew he was the pole Winner.
Christa: And like Mike said it’s official, we talked to you yesterday in practice, you knew your car was fast, did you know, you would be leading the field to green in the Daytona 500?
Martin Truex Jr: Well we knew we had a shot, and that was exciting for all of us, this is the first time we’ve come down here and felt like we had a shot at the pole here, so it’s a big deal, Daytona 500, starting on the pole, We got alot of work ahead of us this week still, I am excited for all of the guys back in the shop, that worked so hard, and for Bonno and all these guys, and for Best Pro, and tracker boats. It’s a great way to start the season, I am so proud of all of them.
Christa: You’re so calm, you’re on the pole for the Daytona 500!!
Martin Truex Jr: I know, I know, that was about the most I ever got excited watching qualifying in the bus there, when Bill Elliott went, so it’s awesome I am proud of the guys and it’s going to be fun going to victory lane, and I haven’t been there since 2005 here so hopefully next week when the time comes, well be there in the right position. And we’ll have a shot at the 500, but this is really good.

In the final practice session, on Saturday, Truex was in the 35th spot, and this time, he ran a total of 30 laps.
Going into the race, both driver, and crew chief, were not going to give up just yet their bid for the chase. They said, they aren’t giving up, until they are mathematicaly elimanted from the chase.
Truex did a great job in the race, all things considered, he brought his Bass Pro Shops chevrolet, to a 16th place finish. The winner for the race, would be Carl Edwards.
The standings for after Michigan, Truex, is still in the 16th spot in the standings, and is now 201 points away from the 12th place car Denny Hamlin. Denny Hamlin had a bad day, as his motor blew up, just a few laps from the finish.
There are only 3 races remaining until the chase Starts, next week at Bristol, then California, and the last stop at Richmond.
Last year’s winner was Carl Edwards, You can catch the race on Espn, on Saturday night, as the sprint cup series is going to be racing under the lights! The race time will start at 7pm Eastern time. And you can also watch qualifying on friday starting at 3:40 eastern time, on speed tv.
Martin Truex Junior still has a chance to make it into the chase, especialy in the next 3 races, as long as he gets top 10 finishes from here on out, and his competitors slip a little bit, then truex certainly has a chance!
The qualifying session for the chicagoland LifeLock 400 was canceled, due to inclement weather. This would mean that the field would be lined up by their car owner points. And so Martin Truex Junior would start in the 19th position.
The night went pretty well for Truex, as he led 2 laps, and picked up crucial bonus points towards his chase for the cup. He finished in the 9th position! Not a bad day all things considered.
Truex moved one position in the points standings, and is now in seventeenth position.
Denny Hamlin who is currently in the top 12 in the point standings had a bad day at chicagoland, and moved down 5 spots in the standings and is currently the 12th place guy, with a total points of 2283.
Martin Truex Jr, is in 17th spot with 2050 points, truex is now 233 points behind 12th place.
There are only 6 races remaining until the chase starts.
The next race will be at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Allstate 400 At the Brickyard. However, this won’t be until after next week. The race is scheduled to take place on the 27th of July. This will be Nascar’s final break for the season. So from the Indy race, until the end of the season, they are racing every week!
Martin still has a chance to make it into the chase, lets keep our fingers crossed that makes it in!
